What is LanScan?
────────────────
The LanScan utility was developed to provide quick access to real-time
information on local and network hard drives. It scans all possible hard
drives, C: through Z:, and reports statistics real-time. LanScan will
operate Novell and other networks.
The Main Grid provides a quick "gauge" of used and available space.
A Detail Grid provides additional disk statistics.
Who needs LanScan?
──────────────────
Anyone who uses a P.C. or workstation that is attached to a local area
network. System administrators, LAN managers and users who wish to have
instant access to disk information.
What information is provided?
─────────────────────────────
LanScan is comprised of two "grids", a Main and Detail. The information
provided by each is listed below.
The Main Grid:
o Drive letter
o Total disk capacity
o Available space
o Activity "LED"
o Utilization graph
The Detail Grid:
o Drive letter
o Total disk capacity
o Available space
o Activity "LED"
o Total clusters
o Free clusters
o Bytes per cluster
o Sectors per cluster
o Bytes per sector
o Utilization graph
o Percent of utilization
The usage graphs, on either the Main or Detail grid, uses a full block
character to indicate used space. The "gauge" will increase and decrease as
disk space is used or freed. The half block starting marker remains fixed
to provide a starting reference.
When used space exceeds 95%, LanScan will warn you by blinking the available
space value. If you want to change the default warning value from 95% to some
other value you can enter your custom value when you start LanScan. For
example, if you want to be notified when usage is greater than 85% you would
enter: LANSCAN 85 at the dos prompt. Valid range is between 1% and 99%. If
your entry is invalid LanScan simply starts with the 95% default.

LanScan displays 8 drives per grid. To switch between grids use the
[PgDn] [PgUp] keys. To activate a Detail grid, select a drive letter from
the current grid. [ESC] will back you out of a Detail grid or allow you
to end LanScan operation from the Main grid.
LanScan will flash the available space value when a disk becomes 95% full.
If you want to be warned at another value, simply enter the desired value
on the command line when you start LanScan. For example if you want to be
notified when usage exceeds 75%, you would enter LS 75 <┘ from DOS.
The valid range is 1% to 99%. If your entry is out of range, the 95% value
is used.
